Pentagon reviews beard policy enforcement after ship visit

Enforcement and exceptions Special Operations Forces face different rules when deployed in chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear threat areas. Waivers remain available for medical conditions such as pseudofolliculitis barbae after an individualized review each year.

Religious accommodations apply to service members in non-deployable roles with low risk of chemical attack or firefighting requirements, provided documentation of sincere belief.
