Pew Survey Finds China Viewed More Favorably Than US in Most of 36 Countries, US Leads in Six

The Guardian reported that China and Xi Jinping are viewed more favorably than the United States and President Trump in most of the 36 major countries surveyed by the Pew Research Center. The poll marks the first time the shift has occurred across a majority of the nations tracked. The countries where China received higher favorability ratings include Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Respondents in only six countries rated the United States more highly than China. Across 20 countries tracked over time, the median share of adults with a favorable view of China rose from 32 percent in 2023 to 46 percent this year. The corresponding median for the United States fell from 58 percent to 36 percent over the same period.

The survey was released on or before July 15, 2026.
