Phil Taylor Advises Luke Littler to Reduce Social Media Use and Train More Before Liverpool Match

Phil Taylor urged Luke Littler to step away from social media and dedicate more time to training as Littler prepares for the Premier League fixture in Liverpool on the evening of 2026-04-23. The 16-time world champion, speaking on the Double Tops podcast, emphasized the need for Littler to avoid reacting online to critics.

GB News reported that Taylor believes such activity is antagonizing spectators further after hostile receptions in recent events.

' He added, 'I was always told, 'whatever you do, don't have an opinion on social media'. ' Taylor, who employs others to manage his own social accounts, suggested the Warrington player should channel energy into the practice room instead of engaging online. Littler has faced jeers from crowds during his previous two Premier League appearances.

The situation escalated after his confrontation with Dutch player Gian van Veen at the Manchester event three weeks ago. GB News reported that this dispute appears to have turned sections of the audience against him, with supporters voicing disapproval when he takes to the oche.

Taylor also recounted an exhibition event where he witnessed Littler using his mobile device for approximately two and a half hours while opponent Luke Humphries worked intensively on his game beforehand.

When Taylor asked Littler if he was going to practise, Littler replied 'nah'. Taylor described the result as seemingly 'impossible' given Littler's remarkable natural ability, but noted that the hostile crowd reaction has begun to affect his performances since the Van Veen incident. ' He advised Littler to 'just go and play out of your skin' to overcome the negativity.

GB News reported Taylor's view that Littler barely trains despite his talent and needs to practise more. Littler currently sits second in the Premier League table with 24 points. Jonny Clayton occupies first place, with Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen completing the top four.
