Philippine Fuel Prices to Rise July 21 While Inventories Stay Above Minimum

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin announced on July 20 that pump prices for diesel, gasoline, and kerosene will increase starting July 21. Diesel will rise by P10.68 per liter, gasoline by P3.65 per liter, and kerosene by P11.77 per liter through July 27. The adjustments take effect Tuesday.
They follow increases the previous week of roughly P1 per liter for gasoline, P2.62 to P4.62 per liter for diesel, and P2.22 to P4.22 per liter for kerosene. Rappler reported that the Department of Energy had warned of an extra-large increase ahead of the announcement. Garin appealed to oil companies to stagger the hikes voluntarily to ease the burden on consumers.
As of July 17, the Philippines held an average fuel inventory of 45.77 days, the Department of Energy said. Diesel stood at nearly 46 days, gasoline at 43 days, jet fuel at 82 days, LPG at 34 days, fuel oil at 34 days, and kerosene at 139 days. Garin stated that supplies remained sufficient and above the legal minimum of 30 days.
