The alleged abuse occurred in 2017, the same year Meloto stepped down as Gawad Kalinga chairperson. The justice department approved the filing of charges in September 2025. Meloto had taken control of Gawad Kalinga’s Enchanted Farm in Angat and barred staff from entering before the charges were filed.
