Philippine President Calls Special Congress Session for June 17
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued a proclamation on June 15 calling Congress into session to address pending legislation and appointments. The session is set for June 17.
RapplerPresident Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued Proclamation No. 1318 on June 15 calling Congress into a special session on June 17. The session will address several administration priority bills and pending appointments to Cabinet, military, and foreign service positions.
Marcos stated that families affected by a recent earthquake in Mindanao require immediate assistance and that students, senior citizens, children, and vulnerable sectors need continued support.
The special session will also allow the Commission on Appointments to act on pending confirmations for key positions in the Cabinet, military, and foreign service. Several military generals and a list of diplomats, along with the head of the Philippine Space Agency, await confirmation. Regular session of the 20th Congress is scheduled to resume on July 27.
