Phillies End Tigers’ Six-Game Winning Streak with 4-2 Victory

Cristopher Sanchez struck out seven over seven innings and allowed two runs on 10 hits as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2 on July 11. The win ended Detroit's six-game winning streak. Sanchez improved to 11-4 after the outing.

He had allowed a career-worst nine earned runs in 3⅓ innings against the Kansas City Royals five days earlier. After that start he said through an interpreter that he tries to learn from both good and bad performances. Trea Turner drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

Derek Hill made a diving catch in center field to prevent a tying run later in the inning. J.T. Realmuto added a two-run double in the fourth. Eduardo Valencia hit a solo home run for Detroit in the fifth.

Casey Mize took the loss after allowing four runs in 5⅔ innings. Jonathan Bowlan threw a hitless eighth and Jhoan Duran recorded his 24th save with a perfect ninth. The Phillies improved to 53-43 and stand 45-25 since April 25.

The Tigers fell to 44-51. Philadelphia will start Zack Wheeler against Detroit's Tarik Skubal on July 12.
