Phoenix Mercury Defeat Toronto Tempo 89-80 Behind Copper's 27 Points

The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Toronto Tempo 89-80 on Saturday at Scotiabank Arena, Cbc reported. Kahleah Copper scored a game-high 27 points for Phoenix. The visitors outscored Toronto 24-14 in the fourth quarter after the lead changed hands 11 times.

DaWanna Bonner recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix, which improved to 7-13. Julie Allemand posted 11 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Toronto, now 9-10. Nyara Sabally led the Tempo with 14 points, and six Toronto players scored in double figures.

Copper committed an offensive foul while Phoenix led by three points with under two minutes remaining. Toronto failed to score on the next possession, and Phoenix extended the lead to 85-80 with 51 seconds left. DaWanna Bonner hit a three-pointer with 4:08 remaining to give Phoenix a 78-73 advantage.

Toronto played without Brittney Sykes, who has a left foot injury, and Kiki Rice, who has a left ankle injury. Marina Mabrey was a late scratch due to a neck injury after scoring a record-tying 53 points in Toronto's 125-97 win over the Los Angeles Sparks in the prior game. Phoenix outscored Toronto 13-4 on second-chance points and 17-10 on fastbreak points.

Toronto made 31 of 67 field goals and 12 of 30 three-pointers but was outscored by 15 points at the free-throw line. Phoenix converted 21 of 29 free throws while Toronto made 6 of 12. Toronto hosts the Dallas Wings on July 5.

Phoenix returns home to face the Seattle Storm on July 2.
