Pilot Reports Airborne Object Near LAX at 4,000 Feet
A pilot approaching Los Angeles International Airport reported seeing what appeared to be a person in a wingsuit or skydiver at about 4,000 feet. Air traffic controllers alerted other pilots and authorities searched the area but found no one.
New York PostThe crew of the flight radioed the control tower with the sighting, which occurred less than ten minutes before landing. Air traffic controllers notified other pilots in the area and contacted local authorities.
The aircraft had departed from Joint Base Andrews earlier that day, stopped at Nellis Air Force Base, and was completing its final leg into the airport when the sighting occurred.
The report revived memories of multiple sightings near the airport that began in 2020. Commercial pilots had previously described seeing what appeared to be a person flying a jetpack at altitudes up to 6,000 feet. One widely reported 2020 incident involved an airline crew describing "a guy in a jetpack" at about 3,000 feet.
A 2021 report described an object resembling a jetpack at 5,000 feet fifteen miles east of the airport. Video from December 2020 appeared to show a similar figure flying off the coast of Palos Verdes at around 3,000 feet. Officials later suspected some sightings may have involved drones designed to look like a person with a jetpack.
No arrests were made in connection with the earlier incidents, and the identity of the figure was never established. Sunday's report made no mention of a jetpack, and authorities have not stated whether they believe the latest sighting is connected to the previous ones.
