Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones retired at least 30 consecutive batters before the streak ended Saturday during a 7-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in the first game of a doubleheader. Jones, 24, began the run on July 2 after allowing an RBI double to a Philadelphia batter.
He then threw six perfect innings against Atlanta on July 8 and retired the first eight Cleveland batters on Saturday before Steven Kwan singled to left field.
Streak details The streak ended when Cleveland rookie second baseman Travis Bazzana followed Kwan with an RBI triple. Jones allowed one run on three hits and struck out a season-high nine in five innings. "Giving up a run, I had some choice words for myself," Jones said.
