Pittsburgh to Host Juneteenth Events Including Parade and Festivals

Juneteenth events will take place in Pittsburgh from June 18 through June 27. Most activities fall under the Western Pennsylvania Juneteenth Celebration held in downtown Pittsburgh.

Juneteenth marks June 19, the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom under the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday received federal recognition in 2021.

M. m. on the Gateway Clipper Fleet. Admission is $60 and restricted to ages 21 and older. WPA Juneteenth in the Square runs June 19-21 at Market Square with live music from multiple bands and free entry. WPA Juneteenth and Black music celebration occurs at the same dates at Point State Park with additional performers.

m. from Freedom Corner and proceeds through downtown Pittsburgh to Point State Park. A small business economic impact zone with over 200 vendors opens the same weekend on Liberty Avenue. Additional events include a family roller skating session on June 18 at Schenley Park, a historic marker dedication on June 26 for abolitionist George B.

Vashon, and WAMO Day on June 27 at Highland Park.
