Plane Crash Near Butler, Missouri, Kills 11 Skydivers and Pilot

A private plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Butler Memorial Airport in Butler, Missouri, on Sunday, killing the pilot and 11 skydivers. A witness described the aircraft as perpendicular to the ground before impact. The plane struck the ground at high speed, and the surrounding area caught fire. Family members of those on board were present at the airport and observed the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is examining the mechanical condition of the airplane and engine. The airport does not have a control tower that communicated with the pilot. The plane was operated by Skydive Kansas City. The company stated the incident is a devastating loss and that its focus is on assisting investigators and supporting staff and the skydiving community.
