Poland and Spain Sign Deal to Buy Four Airbus A330 Tankers

Poland and Spain have signed a memorandum to jointly purchase four Airbus A330 MRTT tanker aircraft for the Polish Air Force. The agreement lets Poland increase its planned order from two to four aircraft and receive the planes by 2030. A spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of National Defence said the memorandum obliges both countries to carry out the acquisition together and enables Spain to share its delivery slots with Poland.
The deal was signed in late June 2026.
The purchase will be financed through the European Union’s Security Action for Europe scheme, which provides Poland with access to approximately €43.7 billion in low-cost loans. The loans must be disbursed by the end of 2030. The value of the tanker order was not disclosed. Poland had initially planned to buy two aircraft using the EU loans.
Poland is also evaluating options for up to 32 new fighter jets. The candidates include Lockheed Martin’s F-35, Boeing’s F-15EX, and the Eurofighter Typhoon. A retired Polish Air Force major general told Defense News that joining the Eurofighter supply chain could give Polish industry access to technologies otherwise unavailable and position the country to participate in sixth-generation fighter development.
