Police Arrest Suspect in Shooting of Jadeidi-Makr Council Head and Deputy

Police arrested a man in his 20s from Jadeidi-Makr on Monday on suspicion of involvement in the overnight shooting of the Jadeidi-Makr Local Council head and his deputy. Emergency services responded shortly after midnight after reports of gunfire in the northern town.

Magen David Adom paramedics treated two men at the scene, one aged 49 in moderate condition and another in his 50s in serious condition, both with gunshot wounds.

Commissioner Danny Levi held a situation assessment and said the incident crossed a red line. He described the shooting as a direct attack on elected officials and symbols of government. Levi said Israel Police opened a determined investigation assigned to the Coastal District Central Unit and placed it at the top of the force’s priorities.

He added that the team received all available capabilities and resources to locate suspects and bring them to justice. Levi also warned that police would respond firmly to attacks on public officials and pointed to the recent solving of a similar case involving the mayor of Arraba.

Herzog condemned the shooting on Monday and said it reflected a wider wave of violence harming Arab society. He called the violence a strategic threat to the State of Israel and urged authorities to fight the phenomenon with every available tool.
