The victims were identified as 74-year-old Sumie Tanaka and her 52-year-old daughter Chihiro. Both women were found Tuesday with multiple stab wounds to the neck and other areas of the body.
Investigators determined the cause of death as blood loss for Sumie Tanaka and hemorrhagic shock for Chihiro. The women are believed to have died around May 13. Chihiro returned home from an outing on the evening of May 13 and is believed to have been killed after that time.
No signs of forced entry or vandalism were found inside the house. Smartphones and wallets containing cash remained in the residence. A knife believed to be the murder weapon has not been recovered. The suspect's whereabouts are unknown. Police have launched an open investigation to locate him.
