abcnews.go.comGreater Manchester Police launched a manhunt after Marwan Jumaa escaped custody on July 14 while being transported from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester General Hospital. GB News reported that the 20-year-old Sudanese national, who holds indefinite leave to remain in the UK until 2028, was being held at Belmarsh prison in South London while receiving treatment at the secure unit in Greater Manchester.
His sentence had been split between prison and hospital care.
Jumaa had been sentenced at Bromley Magistrates’ Court in 2025 for assaulting two women, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. He is described as a black male of skinny build, with short dark hair and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. Police said Jumaa has links to Bury, Prestwich and Crumpsall in Greater Manchester, as well as to Leeds and London.
He is considered a risk to himself and others. “If you see him, do not approach him – please call 999 immediately quoting log number 3544 of 14/07/2026,” Greater Manchester Police stated. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Detective Chief Inspector Abigail Cronin said officers are working around the clock to locate Jumaa and return him to hospital. The Home Office was contacted for comment.
