Policewoman has supported parents of colleague who died in 2006 for 20 years

A policewoman in southern China has provided ongoing support to the parents of a colleague who died in the line of duty in 2006. On September 4, 2006, Deng Wenguo, a police officer at the frontier inspection station in Dongguan, Guangdong province, died while saving people from drowning in a reservoir.

He was later recognised as a martyr by China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs. Zhu Shuo, Deng’s colleague, first encountered his parents while assisting with funeral arrangements. She decided to assume responsibility for their care from a distance.

Ongoing assistance Zhu has sent money on traditional Chinese festivals and mailed daily necessities to Deng’s parents in Yongzhou, central Hunan province. She has also provided phone support and helped them manage difficulties. Zhu maintained the support even after incurring one million yuan in debt for family medical expenses.
