A CNN poll found that 61 percent of Americans changed their grocery purchases to stay within budget in the last several months. Another 59 percent said they had cut back on extras and entertainment. More than three quarters of Americans, including 55 percent of Republicans, said President Trump's policies have increased the cost of living in their community.

Nearly 80 percent of voters, including a majority of Republicans, said the Trump administration is responsible for recent gasoline price increases above $4.50 a gallon.

Nearly half of voters rated the economy as "poor" in the latest New York Times/Siena poll, an 11-point increase since January. Gallup reported that economic confidence has reached a four-year low. A Fox News poll found that 57 percent of voters say President Trump's policies have hurt the country, up from 51 percent one year ago.

Large majorities in the same poll also blamed oil companies, the war in Iran, and government regulations for higher prices.
