George Santos Bets on Polymarket Using Public Schedule
The prediction platform is terminating its contract with the former congressman after federal authorities opened an investigation into whether he placed bets on his own attendance at the February State of the Union address.
thenation.comThe online prediction platform Polymarket is ending its paid relationship with George Santos after federal regulators began examining whether he placed bets on his own attendance at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Santos placed the wagers on a separate platform, Kalshi, after publicly stating he planned to attend the Feb.
24 speech. He later attributed his absence to a delayed flight.
Kalshi detected the trades and referred the matter to federal authorities, which opened a probe into possible insider trading, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press. By the time of the address, Santos was already working in an influencer role for Polymarket, using his online platform to promote the brand.
A Polymarket spokesperson told the AP the company was terminating the contract following the revelations.
Santos was released from federal prison last October after President Trump granted him clemency in a fraud case. He had been sentenced to more than seven years after pleading guilty to wire fraud and identity theft involving donor funds. On his podcast, Santos has described prediction markets as “easily manipulable” and noted that investigations and scrutiny would occur.
““There’s definitely some space for speculation. There will be investigations.”
