Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals as Portugal defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in a World Cup group match on June 23 in Houston. He became the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a right-footed shot after a cross by João Cancelo.
He added a second goal later in the first half after a pass from Bruno Fernandes. Portugal's other goals came from Nuno Mendes on a free kick, an own goal by Abdukodir Khusanov and a late strike by Rafael Leão. The match marked Ronaldo's 230th international appearance.
His goal against Uzbekistan was his ninth in World Cup play. Portugal had drawn 1-1 with DR Congo in its opening match of the 2026 World Cup, and Ronaldo did not score in that game. Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the only two men to have played in six World Cup tournaments.
Messi has scored 18 career World Cup goals after a hat trick against Algeria and two goals against Austria at the 2026 tournament.
