Portugal's weather agency IPMA forecasts temperatures above the seasonal average this weekend, with readings between 30°C and 35°C across most of the mainland and up to 39°C in parts of the Tagus Valley. Minimum temperatures are expected to reach around 20°C nationwide.

The same forecast includes cloud cover and coastal showers, with a chance of heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms inland, especially on Saturday afternoon. Humidity in those areas may cause temperatures to drop slightly.

IPMA stated that conditions favor the movement of dust from North Africa, with suspended particles expected to remain until the end of Saturday. The agency noted that heavier particles fall near their source while finer ones can travel long distances before settling.

The dust can trigger respiratory discomfort for people with allergies or conditions such as asthma and bronchitis, and it may reduce visibility for drivers. The same material supplies minerals including iron and phosphorus that serve as nutrients when deposited in the ocean or on land.

Eight northern and central districts—Bragança, Vila Real, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Porto, Viseu, and Guarda—will be under a yellow warning on Saturday for rain and thunderstorms. m. , and use sunscreen with a protection factor above 30. The agency added that the current warm spell is expected to intensify during the following week.
