The main opposition People Power Party filed a complaint with police against President Lee Jae Myung on May 30, 2026, alleging that he and National Election Commission officials violated the Public Official Election Act. PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok filed the complaint in Seoul after speaking to reporters near a police station.

The complaint centers on an incident during early voting on May 29 when Lee and first lady Kim Hea Kyung visited a neighborhood community center near Cheong Wa Dae.

After entering a voting booth, Lee briefly stepped out and asked an election official whether his ballot would still be valid because the stamp appeared only partially on the ballot paper. The PPP claimed that Lee's action violated the principle of ballot secrecy. The ruling Democratic Party criticized the complaint as far-fetched.

Rep. Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party, said the election committee determined there were no legal violations. "Filing a complaint over an incident that could simply have been brushed aside will not help the PPP gain more votes," Jung said during a campaign event in Hadong, around 285 kilometers south of Seoul.
