The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, accused of killing Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in September, opened Monday in Provo, Utah, New York Post reported. Erika Kirk left the courtroom with Charlie Kirk’s parents and other family members as former campus police officer Chris Bagley testified that he heard a rifle shot and saw Charlie Kirk collapse during an event on the university campus.
Kathryn Kirk held a tissue pack and bowed her head while listening to the testimony.
Tyler Robinson, 23, appeared in person wearing a grey suit with his wrists shackled to a chain around his waist. He remained stoic and occasionally took notes during witness examination. Judge Tony Graf stated that attendees may return to court once they had left when court reconvened.
The hearing will continue through the week to determine if the evidence against Robinson is strong enough to proceed to trial.
