Preliminary Hearing for Tyler Robinson in Charlie Kirk Killing Begins Monday in Provo

Tyler Robinson's preliminary hearing begins Monday in Provo, Utah, where prosecutors will present evidence to Judge Tony Graf to establish probable cause in the killing of Charlie Kirk. Erika Kirk is scheduled to attend the five-day hearing along with other family members and close friends.

A source familiar with the situation said the family may choose to leave the courtroom during portions of the evidence presentation.

Prosecutors plan to show graphic videos of the alleged assassination and autopsy evidence. Lawyers for both sides have agreed to provide advance warnings so attendees can decide whether to remain in court. Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10, 2025, while addressing a crowd of thousands at Utah Valley University in Orem.

Robinson, 23, is accused of shooting Kirk from long range. Evidence expected at the hearing includes messages in which Robinson allegedly confessed to the shooting to his former roommate Lance Twiggs, 22. Prosecutors also intend to present a recorded interview Twiggs gave on April 20 under limited immunity.

Under Utah law, the preliminary hearing serves as an alternative to a grand jury indictment to determine whether probable cause exists for trial. Robinson has not entered a plea and could face the death penalty if convicted.
