President Trump announced a $700 million investment in coal and the construction of the first coal plant in the United States since 2013 during an event in West Virginia. West Virginia's Republican Gov. Patrick Morrisey stood alongside President Trump as the announcement was made.
Morrisey stated that West Virginia is positioned to supply power for data centers and other technology. "The power demand is insatiable," Morrisey said. "For technology, for AI, you're going to need coal to be extended significantly. You're going to need a lot of gas.
You're going to need a lot of nuclear, other forms of energy. " Morrisey also said West Virginia would serve as "America's battery" for future energy needs.
