Background on the Case Combs was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges that carried possible life sentences. He was convicted only on the transportation count and sentenced last year. Trump previously confirmed that Combs had formally petitioned for a pardon. In a January interview, Trump told The New York Times he was not considering the request at that time.
Trump is weighing clemency for multiple individuals, with some reports suggesting as many as 250 pardons tied to the U.S. 250th anniversary. The list under consideration includes people convicted of clean-air and emissions violations. Combs' attorney has not responded to requests for comment.
The White House referred reporters to Trump's earlier statement that he was not considering a pardon for Combs. If no pardon is granted, Combs' sentence is set to end in February 2028.
