President Donald Trump said he has left instructions for the U.S. military to bomb Iran at levels never seen before if the country assassinates him. He made the comments in an interview with the New York Post.
"I've been on their list for a long time. That's what we're dealing with," Trump said. He stated there were no new Iranian plans to assassinate him. "No, no, Israel came up with nothing," he said. "I've been No. 1 on their list for a long time."
Trump noted the threats during a press conference this week at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey. "They had leaders, they're gone. And you know what? I may be gone too. Because I'm their No. 1 target — it's out all over the place," he said.
The White House confirms ongoing diplomatic talks with Iran. Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday that Iran has asked to continue talks, but the United States has stated the ceasefire is over. Iran has sought Trump's assassination after he ordered a 2020 strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani.
