President Trump described his final phone call with Sen. Lindsey Graham during an appearance on NBC News' Meet the Press on Sunday. The president, 80, said he received the call in the early evening after Graham returned from Ukraine and expressed shock at the senator's death the previous night.
Trump called Graham, 71, family and recounted the conversation in detail. Graham told him the SAVE America Act was ready and that he had just landed from Ukraine. Trump replied that it was a long trip and noted Graham sounded a little tired but otherwise fine.
Graham died of a brief and sudden illness Saturday evening, his office said. Trump predicted the senator would be appreciated more after his death than during his life. Graham had left a Medal of Honor award ceremony at the White House in June, New York Post reported.
