Gov. Burt Jones in the Republican primary for Georgia governor. During a tele-rally, Trump called on Georgians to vote for Jones in the May 19 primary and stated there is nobody even close to him in the race.

Trump said he had endorsed Jones and no one else. He described Jones as an incredible guy who is tried and true with his complete and total endorsement. Trump added that he has a great relationship with Jones and does not often campaign this way but is doing so because Jones is a great man who could win.

The primary has become a contest between Jones and businessman Rick Jackson over support from the Republican base. An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted after early voting began in late April showed Jackson at 32 percent among likely GOP primary voters.

Jones stood at 25 percent, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger at 11 percent, state Attorney General Chris Carr at 6 percent and 23 percent of respondents remained undecided.

Trump tied Jones to his policy priorities. He said that as governor, Jones would keep Georgia taxes low, cut regulations and ensure voting integrity. Trump stated that he needs people like Burt to help him.

The tele-rally occurred as Jackson has seen a surge in polling support. Trump’s endorsement has carried significant weight in Republican primaries in other states such as Indiana. Georgia voters are scheduled to cast ballots in the primary on May 19.

Current term-limited Gov. Brian Kemp could decide to delay the primary in connection with redistricting efforts in the state.
