The White House announced earlier this month that President Trump will undergo his annual medical and dental examination on Tuesday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The examination is described as part of the president's regular preventive healthcare. The White House stated that the president will also spend time with service members and staff at the facility.

Health questions and responses The scheduled visit has prompted questions about the president's health. Online discussion has included images of the president with eyes closed during events and speculation about bruising on his hands. The White House has attributed the bruising to frequent handshaking and a daily aspirin regimen.

A spokesman said the president meets more Americans and shakes their hands daily than any other president. The White House has previously disclosed a July diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, which contributed to swollen ankles. Last October, the president described an MRI during a trip to Walter Reed that was later clarified as a cardiovascular and abdominal CT scan.

Statements from strategists Democratic strategist Garry South told the Washington Examiner that former administration practices set a precedent affecting current expectations for transparency about a president's health. A second Democratic strategist, Jim Manley, said the prior administration and media coverage failed the public on health disclosure.

Both strategists urged the current administration to avoid similar issues. Democratic strategist Christopher Hahn called for constitutional age limits for Congress, the presidency, and the Supreme Court.
