President Trump on Sunday shared a 49-minute video posted on July 4 by conservative pundit Michael Savage that calls for the deportation of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other democratic socialist candidates. " Savage states that democratic socialist candidates are turning the United States into a socialist country through "free" programs and compares the trend to Cambodia under Pol Pot.
"That is exactly what Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists will do to you," Savage said.
Trump has previously met with Mamdani at the White House after the mayor won his race last year. Late last month the president told reporters in the Oval Office that democratic socialists use the term "social democrat" because it sounds appealing, but the movement represents communism.
A recent Economist/YouGov poll found that one in three Americans said they would back a democratic socialist candidate, while 32 percent viewed socialism favorably and 39 percent viewed it unfavorably.
