The company entered the U.S. market in 2015 with a store in Boston. It has since expanded to 40 locations across 13 states, including recent openings in Miami, Grapevine, Katy, Gurnee and Hurst. The strategy mixes large urban flagships with stores in suburban malls and growing Sun Belt markets.
Women's denim at the new store starts at $12, men's T-shirts at $5 and children's sweatshirts at $8. The retailer is also expanding its offerings in beauty, accessories, travel products and homewares. A company executive stated that the Herald Square store represents a defining moment for its U.S. growth.
Primark organized a full day of celebrations that included a block party, live music, branded pedi-cabs, giveaways and food partnerships with local businesses. Performances featured Irish step dancing blended with hip-hop choreography. The events drew on the company's Dublin heritage.
The company recently entered the Middle East through a partnership with Alshaya Group, opening stores at Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. These locations allow Primark to test its model in tourism-driven retail environments. The Herald Square opening occurs as fast fashion competition remains intense from retailers including Shein, Zara, H&M and Uniqlo.
