Prime Minister Albanese to Outline National AI Framework in Sydney Speech

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is scheduled to deliver a speech in Sydney on July 15 outlining a national framework for artificial intelligence. The framework will address data centres, copyright, and jobs. Albanese will announce the establishment of an Office of AI within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The office will coordinate the design of new Australian Standards for the technology. Housing Minister Clare O'Neil stated on Channel Seven that reducing the tobacco excise would make more Australians start smoking more often and would give billions of dollars back to big tobacco companies. She said the government is aware that Australia's smoking rates are not going in the direction it wants.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that 80 per cent of the cigarettes and vapes consumed in Australia last year were illegal. A 7.30 investigation found Australia's illicit tobacco market is expanding online, with dozens of websites promoting cheap tobacco and vapes.
