Prince Harry will travel to London next week without his wife Meghan and their two children, a source close to him told AFP Saturday. The 41-year-old prince had been expected to make his first family trip back to the United Kingdom in four years. The source said Meghan, son Archie and daughter Lilibet would not accompany him on the London portion of the visit.
Arrangements for the remainder of the trip are still under consideration, leaving open the possibility that the family could join him outside the capital.
Background on the visit Harry is scheduled to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, an event he launched in 2014 for wounded veterans. The games will run from July 10 to 17, 2027. He is also expected to attend engagements with other charities during the multiday visit.
The family is currently in Europe and still hopes to travel to the United Kingdom "in some form," The Sun newspaper reported Saturday. The tabloid cited a source saying Harry and Meghan had planned to visit a London hospital together in her first such engagement since leaving the country, but he will now go alone for security reasons.
A source close to the prince said last month that the family would stay at royal residences, and CBS News partner BBC reported they would be guests of King Charles III.
Security and family context Last year Harry expressed concerns about his family's safety in the United Kingdom after losing a court case seeking full police protection during visits. "It's impossible for me to take my family back to the U.K. safely," he told the BBC at the time.
While security arrangements for next week's visit remain unclear, the BBC reported Buckingham Palace had not offered any extra security. Harry and Meghan left Britain for North America in 2020 and stepped back from royal duties. The king's younger son has said he would like to reconcile with his father.
It is unclear whether the two will meet during the visit. He is last believed to have briefly met with his 77-year-old father at the king's Clarence House residence in London in September 2025.
