The BbcPrince William said his family "couldn't cope without" his wife Catherine and that he felt "very proud" of her for completing her first official international trip since her cancer diagnosis. He spoke during a radio interview broadcast from the Isles of Scilly on Friday.
The prince visited the islands to open a new hospital facility and to inspect the construction site of 10 new sustainable homes.
Catherine is "edging herself back" into overseas visits after completing cancer treatment, William said. He noted that royal travel can be demanding and that the family must ensure she remains rested. "She's been through so much in the last couple of years," he said.
Catherine had looked forward to the recent trip to Italy, which focused on children's early years and learning through play. William described Catherine as "a proper pro on early years" and said she spends significant time reviewing related documents each evening.
The prince said he was looking forward to seeing the hospital's expansion, which will now include maternity services. He also viewed the site of the 10 new homes, which will be allocated to long-term residents and local workers. During the interview, William recalled childhood visits to the islands and mentioned his son Prince Louis.
He also stated his preference for the Devonian method of serving cream tea.
