Prince William stated that King Charles hates football during an appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce. The 44-year-old heir to the throne made the comment when asked whether his father had influenced his support for Aston Villa. "My father hates football," Prince William said.
He added that the royal family does not have a particularly long history with the sport, though a few members support teams. Prince William explained that his own interest developed through school and childhood friends who took him to his first match. "My football love came from friends taking me to my first match and at school growing up," he said.
Prince William serves as patron of the Football Association. He attended the Europa League final in Istanbul, where Aston Villa defeated SC Freiburg 3-0 to claim their first European trophy since 1982. Prince William said he plans to travel to the United States if England reaches the World Cup final and invited Travis and Jason Kelce to join him.
