Prince William Visits Cornwall Housing Project in Aston Villa Colors
Prince William toured the Nansledan estate in Cornwall and inspected a new housing initiative for people experiencing homelessness. He also visited the Market Street development, scheduled for completion in 2028.
nationalpost.comPrince William visited the Nansledan estate in Cornwall on Wednesday afternoon. He arrived wearing a blue shirt and claret tie in the colors of Aston Villa, which defeated Freiburg in the Europa League the previous night. The Prince of Wales toured sections of the Duchy of Cornwall estate and later posted on Instagram about the visit.
"Three years ago, we set out to take a different approach, to think more carefully about how the Duchy could use its land to create opportunity and support people over the long term, including launching a project here in Cornwall to help tackle homelessness with the right support around it," he wrote.
Cornwall inspected the estate's first housing project aimed at addressing homelessness. Developed with Cornish charity St Petrocs, the low-carbon initiative will provide 24 homes along with support services. The first phase includes two four-bedroom properties and eight one-bedroom flats for temporary housing.
The first residents are expected to move in this summer. Henry Meacock, chief executive of St Petrocs, said the project shows how homelessness can be addressed through individual, local, and policy-level efforts. He noted that William had seen the final designs two years earlier.
William also visited the Market Street scheme, the first new high street built in Britain in more than a century. The development will include retail units, restaurants, offices, and a 24,500 square foot supermarket. The Duchy of Cornwall announced plans to sell 20 percent of the estate to raise an additional £500 million for housing and environmental projects.
This includes £11 million allocated to eco-housing in the Isles of Scilly.
