Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were absent from the British royal family's traditional Easter church service at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. The service occurred after the February arrest of their father, Prince Andrew, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. An unnamed royal source told Reuters and ABC that the princesses decided to skip the event.
The attendance included King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. This marked the family's first Easter appearance since 2023. King Charles III's other siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, also attended.
In October, King Charles III initiated a process to strip Prince Andrew of his royal titles and honors. The princesses retained their titles and were not affected by this action. Prince Andrew, whose full name is Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing.
Following the arrest, King Charles III issued a statement through Buckingham Palace encouraging a full, fair, and proper investigation. He stated, "In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation," and added, "the law must take its course." The statement reflects the royal family's position on the ongoing legal proceedings.
Prince Andrew has faced scrutiny over his past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender. He has expressed regret for the friendship but denies any wrongdoing. Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew's ex-wife and the former Duchess of York, was also linked to Epstein through past associations.
Ferguson's name appeared in Epstein-related files, leading several charities to cut ties with her in September. Her spokesperson stated to BBC and People that she cut off contact with Epstein upon learning of the allegations against him. Ferguson has not been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
