About 200 protesters tore down metal and razor-wire fences at a planned luxury tourist resort site near the village of Rrjoll in north-western Albania on 13 June 2026. The site lies in an area of sandy beaches and pine forests. Villagers said the land had been confiscated from roughly 200 families and that the company developing the five-star resort had refused requests for consultation.
Demonstrators waved Albanian national flags and shouted slogans as they removed the fencing. Some scuffles with law enforcement occurred, but police did not stop the removal. One participant, Zeke Nikolle Shullani, 56, stated that protests would continue until residents receive compensation.
" The project had received special-status investor designation from the Albanian government. The same day’s events followed weeks of separate demonstrations against another coastal resort project in southern Albania.
