Qatar has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council condemning two recent attacks by Iran, @AJEnglish reported. The first attack occurred on July 7 when a Qatari vessel was struck while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. On July 12 Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Qatar.
The missiles were intercepted, though a child was injured by falling shrapnel. The letter states that Iran should pay compensation for the attacks and that Qatar retains the right to respond in any way it deems fit. Qatar condemned the attacks in the strongest terms and called for them to stop immediately.
The Qatari Ministry of Transport announced the resumption of maritime navigation for all vessel types within 7 nautical miles covering Lusail to Hamad Port and Umm Heesh to Doha Salwa. The decision took immediate effect late Monday, with operators urged to comply strictly with regulations.
ASEAN foreign ministers issued a separate statement expressing serious concern over renewed US-Iran hostilities.
The ministers called for maximum restraint, an immediate halt to hostilities, and the restoration of safe transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
