Qatar Mediates US-Iran Talks After Two Days of Strikes

Qatar negotiators are currently in Iran meeting officials to de-escalate tensions after two days of deadly strikes between the United States and Iran, ZeroHedge reported. The moves come as the guns fell silent overnight and mediators seek to restore diplomacy. Qatar has been in talks with Washington and Tehran to ease the crisis, according to two officials with knowledge of the matter.

Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, each hosting U.S. military facilities, said they came under Iranian attack in recent days. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency alerted that the global vessels security threat in the Strait of Hormuz remains at its highest level.

Talks between the US and Iran on a permanent peace deal are continuing, a US official said, despite the clashes that threatened a fragile ceasefire. Technical talks resumed following the strikes, and the US remains committed to finding a solution with Iran, the official added. In Iran the burial of slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei concluded.

An estimated 41-43 million people attended the six-day funeral, Iranian media reported. IRGC top commander Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi pledged vengeance against the US and Israel for the assassination, stating it would not be erased from historical memory and calling for full realization of justice and a fitting response to the criminals, especially the child-killing American army.

Israel shared new intelligence with the US indicating a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Trump, people familiar with the matter said.

Iran has vowed for years to retaliate against President Trump for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani.
