Qatari Delegation Arrives in Tehran for Talks on U.S.-Iran Framework Deal

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on June 14 to press for final approval of a framework agreement intended to end the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iranian officials said the final decision on the framework remains under review.

Washington and Islamabad had indicated the agreement could be signed as soon as June 14, which would conclude nearly four months of hostilities that began in February.

Iranian media reported that Tehran’s final decision on the framework remains under review. Iranian officials have expressed doubt about meeting the June 14 timeline, and hardliners inside Iran have opposed the terms under discussion. Iran’s armed forces were ready to respond to any threat with “eyes open and hands on the trigger,” according to the IRNA news agency.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a message marking the first anniversary of the 12-day war launched by Israel in 2025. He described the conflict as a “symbol of national solidarity” and credited the “resistance” of the Iranian people, the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the armed forces with forcing a ceasefire.

Jordan state television reported that sirens sounded across the country earlier on June 14 morning because of a technical malfunction in one unit. Technical teams corrected the fault immediately. Abbas Aslani, senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies, said Iran’s negotiating team has adopted a cautious stance because the United States has attacked Iran twice since last year during past talks.

He noted that the domestic situation after the assassinations of senior leadership and the recent war has complicated communication and requires collective approval from multiple Iranian entities.
