Gross margins declined 350 basis points year over year. The hardware solutions segment experienced the largest impact from rapid increases in aluminum, zinc, stainless steel, and plastic-resin costs.
The company implemented targeted price increases ranging from mid-single digits to low teens, phased in throughout the third quarter. It is also shifting the hardware business from a make-to-stock to a make-to-order model to improve working-capital efficiency.
Cash flow from operations totaled $18.9 million, down from $28.5 million in the year-earlier quarter. Management stated it will continue to focus on debt reduction while evaluating opportunistic share repurchases.
