Queensland Couple Donates $40 Million to Motor Neurone Disease Research

A Queensland couple donated $40 million to motor neurone disease research during a FightMND function held on Monday. The event drew a record crowd of 88,000 spectators. Attendees wore blue beanies as part of the annual fundraising drive that Neale Daniher established.

FightMND's lead researcher Bec Sheean addressed thousands of fans at Federation Square before the match. She noted that public awareness of motor neurone disease has increased since she began her work. Daniher's wife and children also appeared on stage. They stated that the effort to find a cure would continue.

Participants slid into an ice bath filled with approximately 400 bags of ice. Among those taking part were comedian Andy Lee, singer Amy Shark, Governor-General Sam Mostyn, and television host Sam Mac. Former rugby league player Jai Arrow, who has publicly disclosed his own motor neurone disease diagnosis, performed the coin toss before the match.

Organisers reported that the target of selling 100,000 digital beanies was reached before the game concluded.
