The Queensland government has abandoned plans to convert the former West End police station on Boundary Street into a health and community services hub. Officials cited inadequate funding and the building's condition as reasons for the decision. The 1,113-square-metre Queenslander, built in 1884, had been vacant since police relocated to Vulture Street in 2021.

Ownership transferred from the Queensland Police Service to the housing department in early 2022.

The former Labor government announced in 2023 that the site would be transferred to Micah Projects for development into a center offering health, housing, and legal services. Ahead of the May 2025 federal election, the Albanese government pledged $10 million for capital costs, contingent on finalizing the land transfer. 1 million commitment.

Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services Amanda Camm said the 2023 agreement did not allocate state funding for capital works or operations. "The former Labor government had intended to sign over the parcel of land on a peppercorn deal without any state funding allocated for either the capital works, or the operational costs relating to the proposed development of the property," Camm said.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson stated the property was returned to QPS in 2025 after being deemed not fit for purpose. The service engaged an independent agent to market the site, and the property sold earlier this year. The listing by C Property QLD described potential uses including mixed-use, residential, medical, office, retail, or showroom development.

Managing director Carl Charalambous declined to comment on the sale, citing commercial confidentiality.
