The IndependentRaheem Sterling was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of Class C drugs and failing to provide a specimen after his Lamborghini struck the barriers of the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange.
The crash occurred shortly before 9am on Thursday 28 May. Hampshire Police said a 31-year-old man from Berkshire was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved. A source close to Sterling told The Independent it had been an “extremely tough couple of years” for the footballer and that “this incident encompasses that”. The source said the incident “brings into spotlight modern treatment of players who are no longer ‘fit for purpose’”, adding that the “psychological strain that has put on him is immeasurable”.
Sterling, 31, signed for Eredivisie club Feyenoord in February and will remain with the Dutch side until the end of the season. He played for England between 2012 and 2022. While at Manchester City he was awarded the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year.
