Los Angeles Mayor's Race: Updated Count Shows Raman in Second Place

Nithya Raman overtook Spencer Pratt for second place in the Los Angeles mayor's primary. Karen Bass remains the top vote-getter and will face the second-place finisher in November.

Nithya Raman moved ahead of Spencer Pratt for second place in the Los Angeles mayor's primary as additional ballots were counted. As of Monday morning, Karen Bass held nearly 35 percent of the vote. Pratt stood at 26.7 percent and Raman at 27.1 percent.

148,000 ballots remain to be counted.

Los Angeles officials have stated that counting will continue for up to three weeks. Under city rules, the top two finishers advance to a November runoff if no candidate receives a majority.

Pratt posted that the margin remains a fraction of a percentage point and that hundreds of thousands of votes are still outstanding. >"Folks, we're dealing with a fraction of a percentage point difference. California law permits people experiencing homelessness to register and vote using a shelter address or a location where they regularly stay.
