Random House has acquired a new "Godfather" novel authorized by Mario Puzo's estate and written by Adriana Trigiani. The book, titled Connie, is scheduled for a fall 2027 release and centers on the Corleone family member Connie, played by Talia Shire in the three Godfather films. Talia Shire is the sister of director Francis Ford Coppola.

Connie is the third Godfather book approved by the Puzo estate and the first written by a woman. " She added, "People underestimated Don Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone at their peril. " Paramount Pictures holds the film rights to the new novel.

Mario Puzo died in 1999. His estate has battled with Paramount over control of rights to the Corleone characters. In 2012, Paramount Pictures sued to block publication of Ed Falco’s The Family Corleone.

After the 2012 lawsuit, the Puzo estate countersued and the parties reached a settlement. The 2012 settlement allowed the Puzo estate to continue initiating book projects and awarded film rights to Paramount. The Godfather Part III was released in 1990.

The three Godfather films starred Al Pacino as Michael Corleone. The Godfather saga has earned more than $400 million worldwide and won nine Academy Awards. Mario Puzo won two Academy Awards in the 1970s for best adapted screenplay.

The Puzo estate sought out Adriana Trigiani after she published a Substack essay lamenting how little was known about the Corleone women. Adriana Trigiani wrote the novel The Shoemaker’s Wife about her Italian roots. She is the author of Lucia, Lucia and The Queen of the Big Time.

@AP reported that decades after the last Godfather movie and more than 10 years since the last Godfather novel, the story of the Corleone crime family has a new chapter presented for the first time from a woman’s point of view. Hillel Italie has covered the publishing industry since 1998.
