The Rangers acquired veteran goalie Joonas Korpisalo from the Bruins for a 2028 fourth-round pick and forward prospect Kalle Vaisanen as the free agency window opened Wednesday. The team announced the move shortly after the window opened. Korpisalo is expected to compete with 24-year-old Dylan Garand for the No. 2 spot behind Igor Shesterkin.
Korpisalo posted a .894 save percentage for Boston last season while saving 13.49 goals more than expected, according to Evolving-Hockey. In 334 games over his 11-year NHL career, the 32-year-old holds a 140-126-38 record with a .900 save percentage and a 3.06 goals-against average.
Korpisalo carries a $4 million cap hit over the next two seasons. His contract includes a 10-team no-trade list.
