Rangers, Braden Schneider Agree to One-Year, $5.5 Million Deal

The New York Rangers and defenseman Braden Schneider agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 29. Schneider became a restricted free agent after his two-year, $4.4 million deal expired. He had received the qualifying offer and was set for arbitration before the sides reached the new agreement.
The deal keeps Schneider under team control for another season. He will remain a restricted free agent next summer as well. Schneider skated in all 82 games last season and posted two goals and 18 points. He has appeared in at least 80 games in each of the past three seasons.

The team completed several trades after July 1.
Officials acquired right-handed defenseman Sean Durzi as part of a package and added Marcus Pettersson to the top four. Will Borgen was traded away in exchange for draft picks. Trade rumors involving Schneider have persisted since last season. The new contract does not provide long-term clarity on his future with the organization.
